Harare – On Monday 18 October in Harare, UNIC joined the rest of the United Nations Country Team in Zimbabwe at a Media Encounter to launch the UN Week in commemoration of United Nations Day.
Harare – October 24 marks the founding of the United Nations. This year in Harare, the United Nations Country Team will undertake a series of activities to raise the nations’ awareness to the work of the organization. This year marks the UN's 65th birthday.
Harare – UNIC Harare, the Committee on Dialogue among Religions to Promote Peace and the Zimbabwe United Nations Association (ZUNA) commemorated the International Day of Peace. The commemoration involved two activities. The first was a sports tournament entitled “Sports for Peace” which involved 11 schools affiliated to the Zimbabwe United Nations Association. These schools competed in the following disciplines: athletics, basketball, soccer and volleyball. The three winning teams were given prizes that included publications of the United Nations.
8 Goals for Africa music video to be screened across South Africa during World Cup
Johannesburg, South Africa – Helen Clark, the chair of the UN Development Group which brings together all UN agencies working in development, today launched 8 Goals for Africa, a campaign song by eight of Africa’s best known musicians, calling for commitment to achieve the Millennium Development Goals – a set of eight internationally-agreed goals designed to reduce poverty, hunger, disease, and maternal and child deaths by 2015.
