UNIC recently held a Model UN with Bindura University of Science Education (BUSE). The students discussed SDG 8, Decent work and economic growth. Each of the 20 countries represented during this Model UN explained to the mock UN General Assembly, their efforts to ensure decent work and economic growth in their countries.
Sixty three students participated in the event, which was officiated by Mr Vusumuzi Ntonga, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade who encouraged the students .
Tafadzwa Mwale of UNIC gave a background of the UN and explained that Model UN sessions are organized in schools and universities to promote an informed understanding of the work of the UN among pupils and students.
During a Model UN, participants act as delegates and present key issues of the UN Agenda in simulated meetings of the General Assembly, Security Council and other UN Bodies.
In Zimbabwe, such sessions have been held by Universities, the UZ being the first participant courtesy of UNIC. Schools have also held Model UN.
