Harare – On 14 September, UNIC , UNDP, the Organ for National Healing, Joint Monitoring and Implementation Committee(JOMIC), Committee on Dialogue among Religions and Faith Traditions and members of non-governmental organizations falling under the umbrella body National Association of Non Governmental Organizations (NANGO) will undertake a clean-up campaign in the run-up to the International Day of Peace on 21 September.
There are two cleaning points – Copacabana and Charge Office in Harare Central. These are some of the busiest parts of Harare.
International Day of Peace is a day set aside by the UN General Assembly as a day of global cessation of violence. It is a day devoted to the strengthening of the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples. The global theme for this year’s commemorations is Sustainable Peace for a Sustainable Future while the locally adopted theme is Planting the seed of peace for a sustainable future.
Over 200 people will participate in the clean-up operation.
