Harare – Over 500 schoolchildren from the Children’s Performing Arts Workshop (CHIPAWO) thronged the Zimbabwe College of Music in central Harare on 25 February, to celebrate the International Mother Language Day 2012 under the global theme Mother Tongue instruction and inclusive education.
The children came from 30 CHIPAWO school-based centres in Bindura, Chitungwiza, Harare and Domboshava and performed various activities aimed at highlighting the importance of the Day. Some recited poems in their mother language whilst others sang songs, danced or performed mini dramas.
Harare – UNIC joined the Embassy of the State of Palestine and the international community in commemorating the International Day of Solidarity with the People of Palestine.
The commemoration was held at Mutare Polytechnic College, 300 kilometres east of Harare.
The event started with the singing of the national anthems of Zimbabwe and Palestine. This was followed by the reading of a statement by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on the occasion of this day by UNIC Officer-in-Charge, Tafadzwa Mwale. In his statement, the Secretary-General said the “establishment of a Palestine State, living in peace next to a secure Israel is long overdue.

“Equal access to education, training and science and technology for women: Pathway to economic development”.
Chinhoyi — This year’s celebration marks the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day commemorations. The focus of the celebrations is on equal access to education, training and science and technology. About two thousand women, men, girls and boys attended the commemoration held at Chinhoyi University of Technology in Chinhoyi, a town approximately 100 kilometers south of Harare where the Guest of Honor was the Vice President Honorable Joice Mujuru. Harare – The Youth Poetry Festival organized by UNIC Harare in partnership with the Zimbabwe United Nations Association (ZUNA) to commemorate Human Rights Day was held on 30 November 2010. The Festival was held before December 10 to enable the participation and audience of high school children who were due to close schools on December 2 for the Christmas break. Continue reading
